Each home at 212 Fifth Avenue is a magical place, to be sure. Those with discerning tastes will be delighted by each luxury residence’s thoughtful layouts, tasteful finishes, and access to a suite of amenities designed to complement the ideal NoMad lifestyle. But for the younger set, a different kind of Manhattan magic awaits just around the corner. The LEGO Store doesn’t just offer infinite building opportunities with mountains of those iconic bricks. It also offers a calendar stacked with special activities and events. Ditch the museum and take the kids here for an afternoon or even a birthday bash—and never step barefoot on a stray brick again.
LEGO art and history
We challenge adults not to let out a gasp of joy—and ride a wave of nostalgia—as they arrive at the store. Even before you enter, you’ll be wowed by the huge LEGO mural window display, which reimagines the New York City skyline. This is no mere toy—it’s a city come to life. Inside the 3,535-square-foot space, another incredible mural continues around the top of the wall, featuring everything from cowboys to circus elephants to hot dog vendors. Tell the little ones to keep an eye out for Brickley the Dragon; his long, LEGO-y body weaves in and out of the store walls.
A LEGO wonderland
Your LEGO voyage has only just begun. Next, it’s time to get your photo taken with the eight-foot Statue of Liberty replica created by master builders in the square outside the store; take in the miniature model of NYC; or simply dive into one of the free LEGO books. Brick specialists are on hand to help kids pick out LEGO sets that are right for them. The most exciting part of the store might be the pick-a-brick wall, where kids can build with countless capsules and choose bricks one by one to create their own custom-curated LEGO sets. Parents: if you’re not quite feeling up to the challenge, you can always sink back into one of the oversized couches and leave all the construction to the kids.
Activities and events
LEGO lets kids’ imaginations run away with them, but sometimes it’s good to have a guide. That’s where the LEGO Store Flatiron District’s events and activities come into play. If you’re looking to shake things up for your child’s next birthday party, you can even host it at the LEGO Store: festivities include games and building challenges from two brick specialists, party favors, and a special present for the birthday builder.
Twice-monthly LEGO Life meetings are a great way for kids to meet other LEGO aficionados, share building skills, and learn new strategies from the store’s master builders. On the first Tuesday and Wednesday of each month, there’s a free mini model building workshop. Your child even gets to take their model back to your 212 Fifth Avenue home. As the days pass, and the bricks call to you and yours, there’s a slim chance you won’t find yourself on the floor helping to translate the classic New York City landmark building where you live into LEGO form.
